Privacy Policy

Last updated: 30 June 2026

The short version: Mac Workspaces does not collect, transmit, or sell your personal data. Everything the app reads about your Mac stays on your device. The only outbound connections are an automatic update check (via GitHub) and, if you purchase a license, payment processing handled entirely by Paddle as our Merchant of Record.

1. Who we are

Mac Workspaces is developed and sold by Strange Attractor FZ-LLC, a company registered in the IFZA Free Zone, United Arab Emirates. We are the data controller for any personal data processed in connection with this app.

Contact: support@strangeattractor.ai

2. What data Mac Workspaces stores on your device

All data Mac Workspaces creates lives exclusively on your Mac. Nothing is transmitted to our servers because we do not operate any servers for this app.

WhatWhereWhy
Profile data (app names, bundle IDs, Space positions, window positions)~/Library/Application Support/Workspaces/To restore your layouts
App settings (shortcuts, toggle states, gap sizes)macOS User DefaultsTo remember your preferences
Restore logs~/Library/Logs/Workspaces/Debugging — 10-file rotation, stays on your Mac

You can delete all of this at any time by removing the app and its Application Support folder. Retention: this data is stored indefinitely on your device until you delete it — we have no access to it and no ability to delete it remotely.

3. Permissions Mac Workspaces requests

Accessibility — Mac Workspaces uses macOS Accessibility APIs to move windows between Spaces, detect window drags, and manage window positions. Without this permission the app cannot function. Legal basis (EU/GDPR): contract performance. No window content, text, or screenshots are read or stored.

Screen Recording — macOS requires Screen Recording permission for any app that reads which Space a window is currently on. Legal basis: contract performance. No screen content, pixels, or images are captured or stored.

Notifications (optional) — to show a local notification when a profile restore completes. Legal basis: your consent (you can deny this permission). No notification content leaves your device.

4. Automatic update checks

Mac Workspaces uses Sparkle (an open-source macOS update framework) to check for new versions. On launch and periodically thereafter, Sparkle sends a request to:

https://raw.githubusercontent.com/mac-workspaces/workspaces/main/appcast.xml

This request is served by GitHub (a Microsoft company, US-based). The information sent includes your IP address, current version of Mac Workspaces, macOS version, CPU architecture, and system language/locale. Legal basis: legitimate interests (keeping the app up to date and secure). We do not receive or store this data — it goes directly to GitHub's infrastructure. GitHub is the data controller for that request. Third-country transfer: this data is transferred to the United States and processed under GitHub's standard terms. GitHub's privacy policy: github.com/site/privacy.

5. License purchases

If you purchase a license, payment is processed by Paddle.com Market Limited ("Paddle"), who act as our Merchant of Record. Paddle is a UK-registered company that collects and processes your payment details, email address, and purchase information in accordance with their privacy policy: paddle.com/legal/privacy. We receive only a license key confirmation — we do not receive your payment card details or billing address. Retention: Paddle retain purchase records in accordance with their own policy and applicable tax law. Legal basis for our receipt of the license confirmation: contract performance.

6. What we do not do

7. California residents (CCPA)

We do not sell personal information. We do not share personal information for cross-context behavioural advertising. Because we do not collect personal information directly from you (beyond what Paddle processes as Merchant of Record), we do not believe we meet the thresholds that trigger CCPA obligations — but we apply the same privacy protections regardless of your location.

8. Children's privacy

Mac Workspaces does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13 (or under 16 in the EU/EEA). The app stores no personal information on any server.

9. Your rights

Because Mac Workspaces stores all data locally on your device, you have full control at all times:

EU/EEA residents: the only personal data processed in relation to your use of Mac Workspaces is your IP address transmitted to GitHub on update checks (GitHub is the data controller for that request) and purchase data processed by Paddle (Paddle is the data controller). You have the right to access, rectify, erase, restrict, and port your data, and to object to processing — please contact the relevant data controller (GitHub or Paddle) directly for purchase or update-related data, or contact us at support@strangeattractor.ai for any other queries.

Right to lodge a complaint: if you are in the EU/EEA and believe your data protection rights have been infringed, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority. A list of EU supervisory authorities is available at edpb.europa.eu.

10. Changes to this policy

If we make material changes to this policy, we will update the "Last updated" date above. For a macOS utility with no server backend, significant changes are unlikely.

Questions about this policy: support@strangeattractor.ai

Mac Workspaces is a native macOS application. It has no website login, no account system, and no backend infrastructure. This policy reflects that reality.
